"Cold" or low-level laser therapy (photobiomodulation) treats diseased/damaged tissue with photons from wavelengths of red and infrared light. The effects are photochemical, not thermal. It won't burn.

It restores normal cell structure and function by triggering physiological reactions that PROMOTE HEALING and RAPID TISSUE REGENERATION.

How does it work?

First, laser light (in the wavelengths of red and infrared)  is delivered to the skin.  This photonic energy is converted by the body into chemical energy. The light is absorbed by human cells and enters the mitochondria, and increases activity of cytochrome c oxidase (CCO). 3 important molecules are impacted:  Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP), Reactive Oxygen Species) (ROS, Nitric Oxide (NO).

What are the benefits?

Pain reduction

Greater oxygenation

Improved immune responses

Lowered inflammation

Stimulated lymph & blood circulation

Nerve cell reconnection

Angiogenesis

Tissue Repair

Accelerated healing

So if someone's dealing with a pesky, hard to heal health issue, laser therapy is a wonderful tool.

Contraindications exist.

Not all lasers are created equal
